Translation Prizes from something called the Society of Authors in London

Translators Association Prizes (entry details)

How to enter:
Entries should be submitted by the publisher.
The deadline for entries is 31st January each year.
There is no limit on the number of submissions made by a publisher.
For each entry send three copies* of the translation and three copies (which may be photocopies) of the original work to:
Awards Secretary, The Society of Authors, 84 Drayton Gardens, London SW10 9SB.
*For the Banipal prize, five copies of the translation and three copies of the original must be submitted.

Dutch/Flemish Translation: The Vondel Translation Prize £2,000
A biennial prize for translations into English of Dutch and Flemish works of literary merit and general interest.
The translation must have been first published in the UK or the USA during the two years up to and including the final year of entry. Next deadline: 31st January 2009.

French Translation: The Scott Moncrieff Prize £2,000
An annual prize for full length French works of literary merit and general interest. The original must have been first published in the last 150 years. The translation must have been first published in the UK in the year of entry.

German Translation: The Schlegel-Tieck Prize £2,000
An annual prize for translations of full length German works of literary merit and general interest. The original must have been first published in the last 100 years. The translation must have been first published in the UK in the year of entry.

Greek Translation: The Hellenic Foundation for Culture Translation Prize £1,000
A triennial prize for a translation from modern Greek into English of full-length works of imaginative literature (prose, poetry or drama). The translation must have been first published in the three years up to and including the final year of entry. The publisher may be based anywhere in the world but the translation must have been available for purchase within the United Kingdom. Next deadline: 31st January 2008.

Italian Translation: The John Florio Prize £2,000
A biennial prize for the translations of full length Italian works of literary merit and general interest. The original must have been first published in the last 100 years. The translation must have been first published in the UK in the two years up to and including the year of entry. Next deadline: 31st January 2008.

Portuguese Translation: The Calouste Gulbenkian Prize £1,000
A triennial prize for translations of full length Portuguese works of literary merit and general interest. The original must have been published in the last 100 years.
The translation must have been first published in the UK in the three years up to and including the year of entry. Next deadline: 31st January 2009.

Spanish Translation: The Premio Valle Inclán £1,000
An annual prize for translations of full length Spanish works of literary merit and general interest. The original must have been written in Spanish but can be from any period and from anywhere in the world. The translation must have been first published in the UK in the year of entry.

Swedish Translation: The Bernard Shaw Prize £1,000
A triennial prize for translations of full length Swedish language works of literary merit and general interest. The original can be from any period. The translation must have been first published in the UK during the three years up to and including the year of entry. Next deadline: 31st January 2009.

Arabic Translations: The Banipal Prize
Sponsored by Mohammed Ahmad Al-Sowaidi Secretary-General, The Cultural Foundation, Abu Dhabi. An annual prize for published translations of full-length works of imaginative and creative writing of literary merit and general interest, first published in the original Arabic no more than 35 years preceding its submission for the prize. Entries must have been first published in English during 2007. The publisher may be based anywhere in the world but the translation must be available for purchase in the United Kingdom. For this prize five copies of the translation and three copies of the original must be submitted. Next deadline: 31st January 2008.
